Mumford and Sons will headline the New Wimbledon Theatre on 9 May to raise money for non-league football club AFC Wimbledon.
The nu-folk quartet, who won a Brit Award in February for their 2009 album Sigh No More, agreed to play the show after being approached personally by the club, according to a message on the band's official website:
"When a team that lies particularly close to the hearts of two members of the band – AFC Wimbledon – approached them to inquire if they'd play a show to raise funds for the club (which is on the verge of a return to the football league) they were only too happy to oblige."
Tickets for the concert will go on sale tomorrow (Wednesday 4 May) at 11am, and seats will cost £35-£45, with special tickets available to club fans.
AFC Wimbledon was founded in 2002, in response to Wimbledon Football Club's move to a new stadium in Milton Keynes and resultant name change to Milton Keynes Dons. Starting in the Combined Counties League, AFC Wimbledon have subsequently been promoted four times in eight seasons.
The club could now be poised to return to the football league, dependent on a successful play-off campaign, after finishing second in the Blue Square Bet Premier league.
